THE PORTRAIT SET IS HERE!

See below the introduction for information and examples of the portrait set!

Light, colour, happiness, interaction, sunsets, magic, whimsy... When I take a photo I want it to tell a story, to capture a memory of a special time or place, to record life in a magical way. I rarely take close up portraits, rather I feature people together as part of the environment. When I look back at photos I have taken of my own family, they remind me of how we were, how we felt, what we were doing, at that one moment. They evoke special memories. Not of our faces, but of our lives. I receive many emails asking how I create my images. Most people comment on the colours and light and ask how to edit to recreate these. Photography to me is all about how I see the world, and that is something that is unique to each of us. However that is just the first step. To really get the best from an image some post processing work on the computer is necessary. I shoot RAW and edit in Adobe Camera Raw using my own presets. I decided after many inquiries to make these ACR Presets available for purchase. They feature some of the common colour editing techniques I use, and are a good starting point for really bringing your photos to life. Presets are also now available in Lightroom format, just specify your requirement upon order.

These presets are the genuine article, not something i have mocked up only for sale, but rather the genuine ones I have created to edit my own work. Don't expect subtle results using these, they are bright, bold, vibrant and saturated. Like my photos, they don't follow the standard 'rules'! Correctly used however, they will bring your photos to life in a totally different way. They are all totally customisable by you, in order to achieve the desired effect. Please read the 'Sets' page and the FAQ's to determine if these are for you. If it is vibrant, different, full of life you are after, I promise you won't be disappointed!

The Portrait Set

THE PORTRAIT SET IS HERE!

I have to admit I am so thrilled with having this set ready to go. It really completes the package and works so well alongside the other sets. The Portrait Set includes 12 different presets ranging from vibrant colour, to tinted, to toned and black and white. All are complimentary to skin tones and perfect for use on close up portraits or group shots. To make editing even easier I have included 2 versions of each preset, one for a well exposed image, and the other for an image that is underexposed and needs some extra help. (so 24 presets total in set)
I have already received some wonderful feedback from the testers and i just know these are going to be an awesome addition to anyones editing process. I will be posting some more examples shortly, but just wanted to set out the timeline for their release.
The Portrait set will be going out free of charge to all those of you who have already purchased the other 3 full sets. The ACR version is ready and will be emailed tonight, the Lightroom version will be on its way out in the next few days. This is a thankyou for the support i have received from you on the launch of ‘Life’s Colourful Canvas’
If anyone is considering buying the initial 3 sets soon, i am going to extend the offer of a free Portrait set to anyone who purchases the Beach, Basic and Backlight sets all together, prior to next Tuesday.
Following this the Portrait set will be priced at $70 individually, the same as each of the other sets. The $150 for 3 sets discount will still be available from Tuesday. All 4 sets purchased together will cost $190 for a short time only.

FAQs

What program do i need to use these presets?

The presets are NOW AVAILABLE in both ACR and Lightroom format. Should you use both programs please request both formats at no extra charge.

How do i load them into ACR?

Please follow the instructions in the read me file that comes with your presets.

Will they work with Elements?

No. While it may be technically possible with advanced knowledge to modify them for elements, it is not recommended.

Can i edit Jpg files with these presets?

Yes, you can reconfigure your PS to open Jpg files in ACR, however due to in camera settings they will not give the same results.

The backlight presets are giving my photos a horribly oversaturated, blown look. What am i doing wrong?

The backlight set is designed specifically for backlit photos. These presets use a lot of fill light and funky colours to give you an arty finish. Some of the backlight presets will not work on portraits or front lit photos.

Do I need to do anything else, or just run a preset and have a finished product?

All the examples shown on this site are straight out of camera (sooc) with one chosen preset run over them, and no extra tweaking, except for sharpening and noiseware. It is possible to simply edit this way. Usually I polish my photos further by slightly adjusting the tabs in ACR after running a preset. Each photo is unique and requires some individual attention.

Why don’t my photos look exactly like yours after i run a preset?

Everybody sees the world and a subject individually. Give 5 photographers the same assignment and they will all come up with something completely different. You create your own vision in camera, the presets will help enhance this, but cannot change your composition, depth, focus or feeling. Presets are affected by your original exposure and colour settings in camera. If you don’t get the exact look you are after, but like the colours provided, tweak the other sliders in the basics tab to assist after running the preset.

These presets aren’t at all subtle, are they?

No they aren’t! They are bold, bright, saturated, arty. They won’t form a complete workflow for you, but they will give you a basis for turning chosen photos into something extra special. If you don’t like such vibrant colours and photo art, then these presets aren’t going to make you happy.

How do I buy them?

Click on the Paypal link, and pay the required amount for your chosen set / sets. Presets will be emailed out to you within 24 hours of payment usually much sooner. If you do not receive them in this time period please check your junk folder incase your computer inadvertently sent them there. Presets will be emailed out to the address specified in paypal.

Please note to the digital nature of these products, purchases are non refundable. Please do not distribute or share these products. Presets remain copyright of Dale Taylor Photography.

The Sets

I currently have 3 sets available for purchase.

The Backlight Set

This is my signature set, featuring 13 different presets for BACKLIT photos ONLY. Bring your wide angle backlit photos to life with a stunning range of colour choices, from vibrant to vintage, black and white to sepia tones. Use the presets as a starting point to create magic. Tweak the preset to your photos needs.

Hints - Your choice of exposure when taking your photo will effect the look of the preset. Should it appear too light or dark, simply adjust exposure, black point and fill light.

The Basic Set

This set features 19 presets that are more general in use. Experiment with them on all types of photos, to enhance colour, exposure, add vignettes, and create toned or vintage looks.

Hints - Experiment by running each preset over a photo until you find one that looks amazing. Due to the different conditions, light, and subjects, not every preset will be right for every photo. Presets are not a ‘one size fits all’ solution, but rather a wonderfully easy way to discover new looks and techniques, as well as a simple and quick way to begin editing.

The Beach Set

I love to shoot in the late afternoon sunshine. These presets are designed for shots that are not backlit, but rather the subject or location is being illuminated from the front or side by the sun. Featuring a range of fun and funky colours, from gentle light and colour to high contrast and saturation, these will be a hit with anyone who shoots outdoors and wants to give their photos an arty look.

Hint - If a preset makes the edges of your photo too dark for your taste, check the vignette tab and drag it to the right until you get a more evenly lit photo.
